6 Hours and 3 Days (Summary) from the Book By Tony Taylor "6 Hours and 3 Days" (from suffering to Glory... to get
our victory) by Bishop Tony Taylor
"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he
was buried, that HE WAS RAISED on the third day according to Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that,
he appeared to more than five hundred of the brethren at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep in
death. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born."
I Corinthians 15:3-8
In this verse of scripture Paul speaks of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. The two events are joined and yet they both are
important for a reason. The Lord’s suffering and death purchased our salvation and defeated sin over our lives. And the Lord’s
resurrection validates our new victory and new (eternal) life. These events are the foundation of our faith and the only hope for all of
mankind. And it was all finished in 6 hours and 3 days!
The Lord Death
What happened in His Death:
"...in Jesus all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in
heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now
reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him."
Colossians. 1:19-22
"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might
destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong
bondage." Hebrews 2:14,15
Colossians 1:19-22 tells us so much about what was happening in the Lord’s death, it is almost like a summary. Note it speak s of the
oneness of God and Jesus "in Jesus…God was pleased to dwell". Here are 5 Key facts Colossians 1:19-22 and Hebrews 2:14,15 reveal
to us about what is accomplished through our Lords death:
- His death was a real death (He partook our nature...flesh and blood).
- He reconciled all things heaven and earth by the blood.
- He has reconciled us, who were his enemy.
- Destroyed satan and disarmed his forces leaving the enemy powerless against the children of God.
(Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Revelation 1:17-18)
Broke the chain (power) of sin to dominates us.
(Romans 5:14,17 "…righteousness reign in life by one, Jesus Christ )
At the hand of the authorities he suffering on the cross and as he went to the cross, Can we see more detail of what was done is us? Yes.
Isaiah sheds more light on this for us.
"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he
[was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed."
Isaiah 53:4-5
"In the days of his flesh, Jesus …. he learned obedience through what he suffered..."
Hebrews 5:7, 8
Jesus went through an ordeal as he suffered and die, from Isaiah 53rd chapter and Hebrews 5th chapters we have the
following 6 point.
- He was completely innocent , all His suffering which includes His death was because of our sins.
- We are freed from worry and fear, we are to be fearless with a sound mind.
(2 Timothy 1:7; 1 John 4:18 "…no fear in love,…love cast out fear")
Our sins and evil thoughts and desires (state of the mind) were paid for by His bloody bruises and wounds
He was beating and to give us peace with God
He was whipped so that we can have all healing
He was obedient to the Father’s will be enduring all the sufferings
(Hebrew 5:7,8)
Note: In the Law of Moses hanging a criminal on a tree or cross was reserved for the most serious crimes:
"And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and
you hang him on a tree, his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged
is accursed of God), so that you do not defile your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance." Deuteronomy
21:22-23
Why Man Needs Salvation!
Sin is a terminal disease that eats away at the very heart of this planet The Bible says that sin is a heart condition. It is a
condition of rebellion against God, which stems from pride. The heart is the seat of pride, which is sin. The Hebrew definition of the word
sin means "to miss the mark." God created us to be like Him, but our pride and rebellion make us fall far short of that purpose.
Our actions, though they may be "sinful" are really only the fruit of our rebellion against God. Our outward actions merely
mirror our true inner condition. It is our true inner condition that God is concerned with. He knows the "real you" better than
you know yourself, because he sees "the inner man" and all your secret thoughts and motives.
"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must
give account."
Hebrews 4:13 (NIV)
Adam sinned (Adamic Sin) and by him all of his descendants are under sin and sin.
Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men,
for that all have sinned:
- Genesis 2:16-17
"Of every tree ... thou mayest freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou
shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die""… of the tree"
- Genesis 3:4-11
"…And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a
tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did
eat.
God, being a righteous and holy God, has fairly judged man and sentenced man to death because of sin
.
- Genesis 3:19
"…for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou
return"
- Romans 5:12
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men,
for that all have sinned"
- Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
The one and only hope for man to be saved is Jesus (The Savior).
All of mankind is in need of new life. We need to be cleansed from sin and it's penalty (which is death) and restored to fellowship with
God who made us all. That is what Jesus Christ (God's Son) meant when He said we
"…must be born again"
John 3:7. It is clear then not only why man dies but why he must die. God is just and His justice cannot permit sinners to live forever. But two of
God's many attributes are His mercy and His forgiveness.
Psalm 130:4
"There is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared"
1 John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us"
John 1:12-13
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,
[even] to them that believe on his name:
Man can has on way to receive hope and escape sin’s grip and its end (death), faith in Jesus!
The Cross
The emblem of the cross is seen all over the world in the display of church steeples and crucifixes worn around people's necks. However,
many people do not know the real meaning of the symbolism of the cross and what it means to those who look to the event of Christ's death on
the cross and His resurrection for their salvation. The cross is the greatest symbol of love that was ever shown to this world. It speaks of
a perfectly innocent man, who was brutally tortured in the most scandalous of deaths, for a world that spit in His face. We are just as
guilty of crucifying our Lord as the people who actually did it because we have sinned and it was for sin that He was crucified.
When people call God unloving for "sending" people to hell, they show that they don’t understood the cross. We (man) are born
in sin and we sin by choice! While our God in His great mercy, has made a way out of the result of our sin. He took it upon Himself,
and the cost is more than we can imagine; he gave his only begotten Son. The Father placed the sin of all humanity upon Jesus and
then punished Him in our place.
This is hard to understand but it is true;
"that God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son that whosoever would
believe in Him wouldn't die in their sins"
John 3:16.
Paid the penalty for sin, He Purchased us
I Peter 2:24
says Jesus bore our sins in His body, not in His spirit. He is the eternal and sinless Holy Spirit.
What Jesus is or does is done in eternity, If he had actually become sin, he would be that way in eternity. (Jesus did not die spiritually).
The Scripture says in
2 Corinthians 5:21
"For he hath made Him to be sin for us who knew no sin..."
Jesus was made to be a "sin offering" for us, it does not mean that He actually became sin.
However, if His physical death was all that took place, the story would have a very bitter ring to it indeed. Preaching just the death of
Jesus is only half the message. The gospel (good news) is that Jesus is alive today!
Resurrection
What is the Significance of Jesus' Resurrection?
Jesus is the only man that ever came back to life from the grave. Every religion in the world outside of Christianity has a grave or tomb
where their God is buried. Thank God the Bible is proclaims that the tomb of Christ was found empty because He rose from the dead and is
alive today (right this minute) !
" Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had
prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body
of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as
they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but
is risen:
Luke 24:1-7,
If we had the cross without the resurrection, we would not have eternal life. It is the resurrection that makes the Christianity
different from the religions of the world. Some people are still portraying Jesus as on the cross, but He's not there any more; He's alive
in His resurrected body!
"….And if Christ be raised not , your faith is in vain"
1 Corinthians 15:16-23
"For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then
they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But
now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the
resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the
firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming."
1 Corinthians 15:16-23
The Resurrection of Christ Declared 4 vital Things:
Acts 2:32-36
says Jesus is Lord and Christ because of the resurrection.
Romans 1:1-4
declared Him to be the Son of God with power.
Ephesians 1:19-23
says Jesus is the Head of the Church.
John 11:25
says He is the Resurrection and the Life.
He is alive, and because He lives we live! Because He lives we can face tomorrow. He has given us power and victory along with new life
(eternal life). Both the death and resurrection of Jesus have converged right before man at the point of his greatest need . And they have
paved the way of salvation for.

Hebrew, Golgotha. |

Words of Christ
Cast lots for His clothes |
|
|
34 But Jesus was saying,
"Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing."
And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35 And the people stood by, looking
on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen
One." |
(23 The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also
the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. 24 They said therefore to one another, "Let us not tear it, but
cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "They divided My outer garments
among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.") |
|
wine mixed with gall and myrrh |
34 they gave Him wine to drink mingled with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink. |
23 And they tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it. |
36 And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine, |

35 And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots; 36 and sitting down, they began to
keep watch over Him there. 37 And they put up above His head the charge against Him which read, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE
JEWS." |
24 And they *crucified Him, and *divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, to decide what each
should take. 25 And it was the third hour when they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of the charge against Him read, "THE
KING OF THE JEWS." |
37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!" 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS
IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." |
18 There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. 19 And Pilate wrote an inscription
also, and put it on the cross. And it was written, "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS."

|
20 Therefore this inscription many of the Jews read, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in
Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek. 21 And so the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, ‘The King of
the Jews’; but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’" 22 Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written." |

thieves on right and left |
38 At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. |

"And He was numbered with transgressors."] |

hurling insults |
39 And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, 40 and saying, "You who are going to destroy the
temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." 41 In the same way the
chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him, and saying, 42 "He saved others; He cannot save
Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we shall believe in Him. 43 "He trusts in God; let
Him deliver Him now, if He takes pleasure in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’" 44 And the robbers also who had
been crucified with Him were casting the same insult at Him. |
29 And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who are going to destroy
the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30 save Yourself, and come down from the cross!" 31 In the same way the chief priests
also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. 32
"Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" And those who were
crucified with Him were casting the same insult at Him. |
39 And one of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save
Yourself and us!" 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same
sentence of condemnation? 41 "And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done
nothing wrong." 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!"

25 Therefore the soldiers did these things. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary
the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby,
He *said to His mother,
"Woman, behold, your son!"
27 Then He *said to the disciple,
"Behold, your mother!"
And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household. |

28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, *said,

Centurion said... |
54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were
happening, became very frightened and said, "Truly this was the Son of God!" |
39 And when the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Truly this man was
the Son of God!" |
47 Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, "Certainly this man was innocent." |

women looking from distance |
55 And many women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, 56 among whom was
Mary Magdalene, along with Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. |
40 And there were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of
James the Less and Joses, and Salome. 41 And when He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many
other women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem. |
48 And all the multitudes who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating
their breasts. 49 And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee, were standing at a distance, seeing these
things. |
